Last week of training Elder Vega

This week has been truly fantastic. Elder Vega and I are working better together than we ever have. I won't say that it's a joy ride and that it doesn't take me a ton of effort to act in a Christlike way in this companionship but I have learned a lot and have seen God's hand working in me.

This week, Leandro Barcos was baptized. Elder Vega and my district leader found Leo (35 years old) while working in divisions 3 weeks ago. Elder Vega and I visited him once but were kicked out by his Evangelica mom with no small number of screams and shouts. We didn't plan on going back. But, last Saturday Leo came up to us in the street and said, "hey, you should come by. I want to get baptized and I think I can get my mom to let you guys in." He came to church last Sunday, we taught him 4 times in one week and Saturday he got baptized. Leo had wanted to get baptized a year ago but he wasn't able to quit smoking until recently. I am amazed that God is continually preparing people to come into His fold.

We started working with a few other families this week. One new person we are teaching is named Antonio. He is the first person I have taught here that doesn't already have some firm belief about God. Most people here are really really REALLY Evangelist or Catholic. Antonio is fresh. He told us that he was baptized in the Catholic church when he was a baby but don't know anything else about religion or Christianity. I am excited for him to learn about God and how much happiness he has been missing out on.

For PDay, we went to La Conga, a Peruvian restaurant in Capital. Elder Ryan (my previous companion) and his current companion met up with us there. We ate with a few members from Elder Ryan's area and talked about everything that is going on in our crazy unique missionary lives. I truly love the relationships that I have made on my mission so far. I feel lucky to know all the people that I do. I love the people here!

With mucho mucho amor,

Elder Smith

PS Read the Book of Mormon every day. I know that you will find more confidence and clarity in the path that God wants you to take as you do so. I love you guys!!!
